Don’t count Taylor Momsen out yet.

Despite reports that the 17-year-old actress was placed on an indefinite hiatus from the CW hit Gossip Girl after acting increasingly erratic, a source tells PEOPLE she’ll still be playing Jenny Humphrey.

“She is still a series regular. She’s still totally a part of the show,” says the source. “Yes, you have seen less of her this season, but it’s dictated by creative [executives].”

The source says as Blake Lively and Leighton Meester’s characters went off to college, storylines – including the younger Momsen’s Jenny – have just been harder to set up.

“They graduated high school … [and] they found that it was hard to put all of them in the same environment in a natural way,” says the source. “When you see Jenny they want her to be driving the story, not just hanging out with the mean girls back in high school.”

And although Momsen has raised eyebrows with her behavior, including flashing the crowd during a concert with her band The Pretty Reckless last month, “this has nothing to do with her bad behavior or her music career,” says the source. “She’s still under contract and she’s still a part of the show. She’s just in fewer episodes.”

Jenny is back!

Jenny (and her stringy platinum) hair will be returning to Gossip Girl on October 25. Below is a synopsis and promo photos from The CW.

TIM GUNN GUEST STARS / JENNY’S (TAYLOR MOMSEN) BACK! — Although Blair (Leighton Meester) made it perfectly clear that Little J was no longer welcome in Manhattan after what happened with Chuck (Ed Westwick), Jenny (Taylor Momsen) is tempted by a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Tim Gunn (Project Runway), which could be a game changer for her future. Meanwhile, Serena (Blake Likely) discovers something about her new boyfriend, Colin (guest star Sam Page), that may put an end to their relationship just as it was getting good. Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Jessica Szohr, Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle also star. Lee Shallat Chemel directed the episode written by Jake Coburn.

According to my source, Jenny’s same-dress (and in one photo, she’s wearing a mask!) masquerade is all part of Juliet’s (Katie Cassidy) master plan to take down Serena. Yeah, in case you haven’t figured it out yet, Juliet is out for some cold hard revenge, and I’m told she’ll end up recruiting not-so-little-anymore Jenny Humphrey—and another major character—in her grand scheme.

Any guesses on who that other character is? I’m all ears…

Oh, and one final thought. Remember the last time Jenny wore a mask and people thought she was Serena? The masquerade ball in season one? Nate kissed her. Good times.

The next episode of Gossip Girl airs this Monday on the CW.
